About the event
Learn the importance of presuming competence. Whether you are a caregiver, therapist, educator, or other professional, it takes practice and understanding to not trust what you see. Often with body apraxia, the body and brain have a disconnect which can cause movements and speech that do not match what the individual is wanting to express. This can lead to treating these individuals as if they are younger than they are or incompetent. Let's hear from a non-speaker, therapist, and autism specialist on the need for our community to presume competence.
